Youth in Europe - our experiences

Extracts from the tour diary of Young music caravan - Europe 2004:

"The mood in this tour is really funny. I'm so surprised that the audience likes our music so much ! It shows how the mix between different music of Europe is successful !
A special kind of tour-festival-European (?) – feeling has been spread into the group – the KINDERGARTEN is going crazy in the good way. This place where the ‘caravan' started to be an organism. Breathing, living and playing music like one organism where every little part is extremely important. The blood is running through the caravan body. The English language is slowly changing into a unique European caravan language. We like each other. And we like Rudolstadt. Rudolstadt likes us."
Today we played a quite good concert. The people were really crazy about us. –This tour could become a big success if we touch the public with our music as we did today. I'm really looking forward to the other festivals in the other countries of the new European Union, how they will react there. But anyway I think it doesn't matter where we are because we speak a language which everybody understands and which lets the border between the countries disappear just like it happened with caravan group. This language is music keep it up !"
Julien (from France)

Rudolstadt: A big painting in clear colours of all kinds of people, walking, dancing, running, enjoying the sun. A huge folk music festival placed in a beautiful little town surrounded by hills. The first stop for the music caravan, the first real concert.
With maps, programs and an amount of excitement we jumped into this great picture, maybe not completely ready for the concert, but with the energy to do it. With a great result. We played well, the audience liked us – and they liked me as a "puppet", which was Julien's new excellent idea of the second groups introduction. My eyes were a bit weird (from both inside and outside) a couple of hours afterwards because of this look that I had to put up, so I must admit that I'm a bit worried of how they will seem after 18 concerts. Anyway, the concert was a success. We were all caught up in a wave of energy for doing more – showing the world.

"We've been 4 days in Poland, had 3 concerts and a nice time. The beginning was the best : Chata Morgana, a small music pub in the middle of nowhere. It was a very special and personal concert, going over directly into a big and great jam session and long party with music, fire-show, dancing and Polish Vodka(with syrup). The people from there were really nice and friendly and enjoyed the night and least as much as we did.
In fact the meals there were excellent. All in all a wonderful place for relaxing, making music, having fun – the atmosphere of Chata Morgana causes a good mood on its visitors. We'll come back soon that's sure !
The folk fiesta in Zabkovice was much more complicated because we relaxed a little bit too much in Bolkow and came too late for sound check, arson because of some problems in addition on the route. It was also raining and the necessary near to the public was missing. Anyway it is a really nice place – an old castle, very typical for this area. Can is missing – he's gone for organizing his visas in Berlin. He has big problems – but maybe someone else will sell these stories now"

Today I phoned to the Polish Embassy early in the afternoon. Why ? Oh, you don't know the issue…OK. I will tell you : Before coming here I got a visa for the European countries which is called "Schengen Visa". As far as I know it was valid in E.U. countries , and we were going to have the tour through the E.U. countries. But around 5-6 days ago I started to be suspicious about it, I got the doubt that maybe the new-comer countries in E.U. are not in Schengen agreement. I don't know why, I have that habit of not being sure, or lets say, being suspicious about even the most obvious things. But this time I was right, East European were not in the Agreement !!! So now I need visas for 6 countries. Oh no, I got one of them. Now it is 5 %Anyway%, it is pretty stressful and %annoying, I've got to visit all the five embassies and I don't know if you know but usually they are only open sometimes or some day not every day. Moreover they treat you like you are going their country to clean the toi
lets, most of the time. But of course we have to pay like 50 € to go "clean the toilets". I guess it is going to cost me about 200 €, which is quite high. However I don't care that much as long as I get the visas and go on the tour with these great guys. Anyway I saved the half of the %trove at least, to the Estonia.
Oh, yes, about the Union…hmm yes, the Union. Come on !!

"…..I'm about to reach the point where I'm filled with bubbles- warm bubbles full of joy, light, inspiration, energy, shine, love, peace eternal harmony…."
Katrine (from Denmark)

"Here we are in Copenhagen! This city is really cool, I feel at home here! I think I could live here. We had a really lovely meal, thanx a lot to Maya's parents! Yesterday we have done a concert in Maribo (Katharine's home town) it was in a kind of theatre and I really enjoyed the concert. For me it is the best concert we have done yet…."
Nicolas (from France)

"How sweet is it to meet people, to stay with them for a while and grow so fast as a family!? This was definitely the greatest time of my life since now!…..
thanx for this great tour ; see you next summer ( in a new style!) in turkey "
Ella (from Germany)

"To all the most beloved musicians I ever meet in my life, I'm leaving now, tears is making master of me. Thanx guys and girls for really everything, I just felt (and still feel) as one big family. How on earth can I live without you all? What will I do without you? All the hugs and kisses that I have in me for you, and a lot of tears, Love you!! "
Helena (from Belgium)

"…And thanks that I, as a Dane, are taking for granted, suddenly got another `dimension`( the street is so CLEAN!!, the houses are so nice and tiny like Doll-Houses… The food, atmosphere. The way things work here- the political system… the island and "BRIDGES!"…The young music caravan, WE, put our fingerprints on Copenhagen!- just a soft touch on the fingertips of the city, but for an important one"
Maja (from Denmark)

From the beginning of the tour, I didn't have the impression to be so far from my native region. Indeed France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland . there are not so many differences. It's the same way of life more or less. But with the Baltic's countries I saw something completely different, but in the same time I had a big surprise. I was in fact so prejudiced, I thought so many wrong things… when I arrived in Estonia, I was expecting for a poor country, with destroyed roads, prehistorically cars… not at all! I couldn't have imagined that this country would be so developed.
I got conscious that people like us, open-minded, curious, travel loving, can have so strong prejudices about something, without any reason.-.. Lithuania is not so developed as Estonia, I was not so surprised. But in fact, it's quite hard to have a judgement, we should stay longer in each country to see what is really the life in such country.

No Stress 07.07.2004
The keyword to save your own life, and well-being. The guy who invented this expression is a clever one. Unfortunately it took me too long to understand the importance of this. But now I know – I felt it deep under my skin. If you notice the following symptoms in your body – please take care. Stay calm.
Symptoms :
Totally restlessness, strong pain in your body (my situation head, neck, arms), when you close your eyes you see a movie rewinding or a CD turning, you can feel that your blood is tuning too fast in your veins, and finally your heart beats 3-4 times as fast as normal. This is stress and please take it seriously…. And please listen to your body and mind. This not a TV-game like Robinson (Maybe it's only Danish) the idea is not to loose participants on the tour.
So liebe junge Menschen :
- Take care of yourself and your colleagues -
- Feel free even though it feels like you're in a "Kindergarten" now and then !
- Share your feelings with others !
- Massage is very good !!
- Music is the best medicine as well as silence…
- Feel comfortable ! No stress !*
Your music therapist Katrine (from Denmark)

That was my first time in a Baltic country, and I didn't knew what to expect from there. But for sure I wasn't expecting this. The countries were more developed than I thought.
It was easy to see that the people from there have money, expensive cars, big shops, the city were very clean, etc… I think Estonia is a bit richer than Lithuania due to the proximity of Finland.
The second thing about those country are the women my friend! Unbelievable the number of the pretty girls! I'm sorry to talk about this but it's impossible to avoid the subject. As a conclusion I would say that I was really astonished by this part of Europe, in a good meaning. I enjoyed those moments so why not coming again?!
Nicolas (from France)

"Remembering all those moments; the good ones, the great ones and the fabulous ones while you are sitting quietly the plane…
20 years later, when you are in a pup, if everybody is silent and if you have a few things, few stories to tell( or maybe to your grandchildren), this tour is definitely going to be one of those few interesting stories!!
